Education
A Pennsylvania native, Dr. Miller graduated from Allegheny College cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. She then attended Temple University School of Dentistry, where she obtained her dental degree. After relocating to Birmingham, she earned her medical degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, and served a one-year internship in general surgery. She completed her Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and served as chief resident during her final year of training.
Throughout her training, Dr. Miller received numerous awards, including the American Association of Women Dentists Award; American Academy of Oral Pathology Award; American Academy of Oral Medicine Award; Ms. Yeghsa Hagopian Dental Radiology Award; Howard Carson Award in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Miller was also inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Fraternity and Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society.
During her residency training, Dr. Miller presented her research on pediatric alveolar cleft grafting at the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons national meeting in Seattle, WA. Her paper, entitled “Retrospectice Review of 99 Patients with Secondary Alveolar Cleft Repair,” was published in the June 2010 issue of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Certification
Dr. Miller is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Career Path/Organization Memberships
Dr. Miller has received an appointment as an adjunctive faculty member for the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Dental School.
Community outreach activities have been an integral part of Dr. Miller’s professional career. She was a member of the Temple Dental Haitian Health Foundation and traveled to Haiti twice for mission work. Dr. Miller is also a volunteer for Cahaba Valley Health Care, which provides dental care to immigrant and indigent patients in Jefferson and Shelby counties. She is a board member as well as chairman of the dental committee.
She is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, American Association of Women Dentists, Southeastern Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the Alabama Dental Association.
The Current Practice
In July 2009, Dr. Miller joined Drs. Clark, Holmes, and Matthews, Jr. at Clark Holmes Oral Facial Surgery, a practice comprised of three state-of-the-art outpatient surgery facilities located in the historic Southside neighborhood of Birmingham, in downtown Trussville, and in the community of Inverness. She practices full scope Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, with interests in pathology, pediatrics, and dentofacial deformities. The group offers a wide range of treatments, including extractions, orthognathic surgery, dental implants, cosmetic, and reconstructive procedures.
